Dental Laser Treatment

Lasers have been used in dentistry since 1960's to treat a number of dental problems. Laser dentistry is a precise and effective way to perform many dental procedures. Compared to the traditional dental drill, laser treatment causes less pain, therefore, reducing the need for anesthesia.

The pain and swelling that may occur after surgical treatments is less at laser treatment than classical processes. Healing is faster.

Especially after soft issue surgery, there is the need to wait for a while for healing. Laser shortens this period.

Application of Laser Dentistry:

Dental lasers can reshape gum tissue (soft tissue laser) and bone (hard tissue laser) to expose healthier tooth structure. Referred to as crown lengthening, such reshaping provides a stronger foundation for the placement of restorations.

Curretage:

The advantages of deep gum cleaning with laser is reduced need to anesthesia and a rapid recovery.

Gum De-Pigmentation (Laser Gum Bleaching)

While the normal color of gingival (gum) tissue is pink, excess deposits of melanin can create the appearance of brown or black spots or patches on the gums. Practically any degree of pigmentation problems can be overcome with laser treatment.

Benign Tumors:

Dental lasers may be used for the suture-free removal of benign tumors from the gums, palate, sides of cheeks and lips.

Laser Teeth Whitening

Laser treatment involves using a beam of special laser light on the desired areas of the mouth. The procedure takes an hour, and results of up to a 10 shade improvement can be seen instantly. Tooth Sensitivity:

Dental lasers may be used to seal tubules (located on the root of the tooth) that are responsible for hot and cold tooth sensitivity.

Nerve Regeneration

Photobiomodulation can be used to regenerate damaged nerves, blood vessels and scars. Tooth decay:

Lasers are used to remove decay within a tooth and prepare the surrounding enamel for receipt of the filling. Lasers are also used to "cure" or harden a filling.

Dental Fillings/Tooth Preparation

Hard tissue dental lasers eliminate the need for a local anesthetic injection and the traditional turbine dental drill. Lasers used in dental filling procedures are capable of killing bacteria located in a cavity, leading to improved long term tooth restorations.

Sleep Apnea

In cases where sleep apnea is a result of a tissue overgrowth in areas of the throat (which sometimes occurs with age), a laser assisted uvuloplasty or laser assisted uvula palatoplasty (LAUP) procedure can be performed to reshape the throat and relieve the correlating breathing problems associated with sleep apnea.
